British cable manufacturer QED has announced two new HDMI interconnects for its Performance range.

QED Performance HDMI-e Super Speed QED Performance HDMI-e Super Speed

The ‘Performance HDMI-e’ and ‘Performance HDMI-e Super Speed’ are the first cables from QED to meet the new ‘High Speed + Ethernet’ HDMI specifications.

The ‘High Speed + Ethernet’ specification adds high-speed networking to the standard HDMI link, allowing users to make use of their IP-enabled devices without a separate Ethernet cable. Another new addition is the ‘Audio Return Channel’ which allows an HDMI-connected TV with a built-in tuner to send audio data ‘upstream’ to a surround audio system, eliminating the need for a separate audio cable.

The HDMI-e benefits from extra-large, 26 AWG, oxygen-free copper main cores which allow data transfer speeds up to a claimed 15.9 Gb/s. for a one metre length, which surpasses the 10.2 Gb/s required to qualify as a ‘High Speed’ cable.

The HDMI-e Super Speed cable meanwhile includes heavy duty 24 AWG OFC, copper cores which promises data transfer speeds of up to 19.2 Gb/s for the one metre version.

Both cables have 24K gold-plated, laser-soldered connecting pins to ensure an optimised, corrosion free connection and come with QED’s standard lifetime warranty.

Alastair Worlidge, product manager of QED distributor Armour Home, said: “QED was one of the first specialist manufacturers to produce HDMI cables and when the HDMI licensing organisation announced the new ‘v1.4’ specifications, including the ‘High Speed + Ethernet’ variant, our design team got on the job straight away.”

Both cables are available now in 1m to 5m lengths with prices starting at £35 for the Performance HDMI-e and £50 for the HDMI-e Super Speed.
