Cambridge-based hi-fi manufacturer Arcam has announced an audiophile iPod dock with the rCube.

The compact 20cm3 cube-shaped box is made from 12mm thick MDF and includes an iPod dock with full Apple certification for iPod and iPhone.
Inside are a pair of 10cm bass/mid drivers in back-to-back force cancelling configuration and a pair of 25mm aluminium dome tweeters, each angled at five degrees. They’re powered by three 50-watt amplifiers offering a total of 90 watts RMS.
It includes Kleer lossless streaming to Kleer-equipped wireless headphones (via the optional rWave wireless dongle, £70) or from a computer equipped with an rWave USB transmitter (available as an optional extra for £80).
Additional inputs include a 3.5mm audio jack for non-Apple players and a USB port for firmware upgrades while outputs include composite and component video for transferring iPod/iPhone video to a TV screen. And for when you’re on the move, it also comes with a concealed handle and a battery pack offering up to eight hours of listening time.
The Arcam rCube goes on sale in October for £500.
