The move follows Samsung’s expansion of its 3D Explore Smart TV app, which offers similar features.
Sony’s ‘3D Experience’ will be available on the company’s 3D-capable LCD TVs with Bravia Internet Video. It’s planned to expand the service later to include Sony’s 3D Blu-ray players and Blu-ray home cinema systems.
The 3D content at launch will include elements from movies, music, sports, games and documentaries, such as Wimbledon 2011 highlights, film trailers including Green Hornet and Monster House in 3D, 3D music promo clips and 3D PS3 game trailers. Sony says that up to 30 3D titles will be available at launch.
Sony’s 3D Experience will initially launch in the UK, Germany, France, Canada and the US.
Edd Uzzell, Proposition Development Manager Sony UK, said: "Sony is committed to creating great 3D experiences by combining the best content with a full HD 3D. This free service delivers exclusive content directly to your home via any BRAVIA 3D TV and straight out of the box. We will continue to work with partners to give our customers access to more great 3D entertainment.”
