Sony Digital Cinema 4K screenings at 2013 Cork Film Festival in Ireland

13 novembre 2013

Sony Digital Cinema today announced that it is supporting the 2013 Cork Film Festival in Ireland. In the Cork Opera House from up until Sunday 17th November, festival-goers will be able to watch screenings of old classics that have been re-mastered such as Apocalypse Now, Night Train to Lisbon, All is Lost, The Blues Brothers and many more using Sony’s 4K digital cinema SRX-R515 projector. Cinenow.com can highly recommend this awesome experience as we were fortunate enough to participate at the one during CineEurope in Barcelona this summer.

In Barcelona, we were highly impressed not only with the superb picture quality in 4K but possibly even more so by both the fluidity of the the 3D images as well as the superb contrast. Sony also presented during CineEurope 2013 their holographic glasses for subtitles which were truly impressive. Witnessing this kind of demonstration will force 3D detractors to think twice about this concept as with the advances in technologies there is now no reason for getting “headaches” when watching a 3D film!

Tim Potter, Digital Cinema Solutions Account Manager, Sony Europe, said: “We were delighted when we were approached by The Cork Film Festival to deliver some of the main screenings on Sony 4K. The fact the organisers wanted to use the SRX-R515 reflects the importance of picture quality in the audience’s experience of a film as the projector uses the highest contrast ratios in cinema and for 4K either delivers the detail native or cleverly up scales the image. With Sony 4K, viewers benefit from being able to see the films how the directors intended"

With over 15,000 systems in the market, Sony Digital Cinema 4K technology allows viewers to experience exceptional picture quality from every seat in the cinema, providing world-leading “easy on the eye” 3D images with spectacular detail even on the largest screens.

Sony Digital Cinema 4K technology is over 4 times the resolution of an HD TV or the previous generation digital cinema (2K). It has captured the imagination of audiences and the cinema industry alike, winning the commitment from Hollywood, as evidenced by 4K releases from studios such as Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, and Sony Pictures. It has also won commitment from Hollywood heavyweights such as Christopher Nolan (“Dark Knight Rises”, “Inception”_), David Fincher (“The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo”_) and Harald Zwart (“Karate Kid”), who have all released their most recent blockbusters in the 4K format.

Enjoy the demonstration as the Sony Digital Cinema 4K technology gives the consumer an immersive, engaging visual experience you simply can’t get at home today. Never-the-less, this is an opportunity to look into the crystal ball of of the future by seeing what the professionals are creating as techniques, technologies as well as many products have a tendency to filter down, in some form or another, to the more “consumer” side of our Industry over time, as well as in high-high-end installations for the “Very Happy Few”.
