Sony has announced its first DAB+ portable radios with the XDR-S16DBP and XDR-C706DBP.

Both devices include DAB+ and FM tuners, but the XDR-S16DBP uses a more efficient form of encoding for improved sound quality.

The stereo XDR-S16DBP portable radio has a wooden cabinet and comes with ten DAB/DAB+ presets, as well as another ten presets for FM stations. There’s also a sleep timer, headphone jack and LCD display.

The XDR-C706DBP clock radio sports the same number of presets but also has a snooze button and the ability to programme up to four separate alarm settings.

The bad news is that DAB+ isn’t yet available in the UK, though it is steadily being rolled out across Europe.
Both future-proof radios are available now with the Sony XDR-S16DBP costing £80, the Sony XDR-C706DBP £60.
