Toshiba has announced its extensive new line-up for this year, focusing heavily on LED backlighting and the company’s first Freeview-packing TVs.
Top of the range will be the WL (in 40, 46 and 55in sizes) and SL (32, 40, 46in) series, with Freeview, 100Hz processing, 1080p Full HD screens and LED edge-lit backlighting, so they’ll all be slim models.
The Regza RV (32, 37, 40in) and XV (32, 37, 40, 46in) series are Full HD screens with wireless DNLA connectivity. The 50Hz RV models come with a Freeview HD tuner while the XVs are 100Hz.
More affordable models will make up the LV and KV series, both of which are 50Hz LCD models with 1080p resolution and USB media support. They’ll be available in 32in and 40in sizes.
Bottom of the extensive pile will be the AV and DV series, 50Hz HD-ready models in 19in, 22in, 26in and 32in sizes.
A little further away on the horizon is the HDR-5010, a Freeview HD digital PVR with 500GB memory. It’s due to launch in June to be ready for the World Cup and includes two USBs, Internet access via Ethernet and three HDMI ports for £349.
Even further down the line is the StorETV media player with 1TB onboard memory, HDMI and wireless connectivity and 1080p resolution. It should be with us around the autumn along with the first of Toshiba’s 3D TVs, which are likely to appear around the same time as its much-touted CELL TV internet-enabling technology.
The new BDX-2100 Blu-ray player will replace the existing BDX-2000 for £129 and there are another three Blu-ray players on the way.
Despite the relative success of the Blu-ray rollout (even if it hasn’t been at the sort of pace the manufacturers would like), Tosh has announced six new DVD players, four of them with HDMI connections, and four DVD recorders, one of which will include a VCR, as well as two portable DVD players.
