Sony 3D systems

Sony has confirmed that its latest home cinema range will be capable of Full HD 3D movie playback from Blu-ray discs.

All of the company’s recently announced 2.1 and 5.1 home cinema set-ups will become 3D-capable via a software upgrade.

Sony BDV-F500

Initially, only the flagship BDV-IZ1000W system was promised with 3D capability, but that has now been expanded to include the BDV-F500 (pictured), BDV-E370, BDV-E670W and BDV-E870 systems.

Also coming soon are Sony’s first two dedicated 3D Blu-ray players – the BDP-S570, which will be 3D-ready straight from the box, and the BDP-S470 which will qualify for its 3D certificate after the software upgrade.

Sony’s 3D system uses Active Shutter glasses (which you’ll need to buy separately) rather than the passive variety favoured by LG and others.
