Germany’s Teufel has announced its Ultima 800 stereo speaker.

Representing ‘the absolute pinnacle of Teufel’s technical abilities’, the Ultima 800 features eight speakers: two woofers, four passive radiator woofers (three of them rear-facing), a midrange driver and a tweeter in a 22×98×37cm cabinet.

Housed in an angled front baffle, the 33mm fabric tweeter has a neodymium magnet and extra long excursion capability promising compression-free, low-fatigue playback at very high frequencies, while a 100mm midrange driver with a pure titanium membrane and neodymium magnet offers wide beam dispersion across its frequency range.
Below that, the lower baffle houses three 170mm woofers, one passive surrounded by two active versions. The active Rohacell Carbon sandwich-cone woofers promise deep and clear bass frequencies through a double-layered material mix.

Meanwhile, the passive radiator harnesses the internal air pressures to deliver frequency-tuned bass response without the frequency interference which might be generated by a midrange reflex port.

The rear of the cabinet houses a further three 170mm passive radiators, effectively transforming further boosting the sound.

The three-way crossover network includes distortion-free, resin-impregnated air-core inductors and polypropylene foil capacitors designed to avoid any microphonic effects. Teufel claims the frequency response is exceptionally broad at 42Hz-27kHz.

Andreas Guhde, lead designer of the Ultima 800, said: “The Ultima 800 doesn’t just sound incredible but it also significantly raises the bar in terms of affordable high-end stereo transducers.”

The Teufel Ultima 800 is available now as a stereo pair for £2,681.
