Paradigm launches the 'most powerful subwoofer in the world'

12 février 2010

Canadian firm Paradigm has launched what it claims is the ‘most powerful subwoofer in the world’ in the shape of the Reference Signature SUB 2.

The hexagon shaped monster stands 62cm high and uses six high-excursion, low distortion 10in drivers arranged two each on three sides to reduce the possibility of distortion induced by vibration while increasing the effective radiating area.

It can plumb depths as low as 7Hz with ‘bloodcurdling’ output measuring 112dB at 10Hz and 126dB at 60Hz. It delivers 4,500 watts of continuous power and 9,000 watts of peak power through its 3000W ‘Kilomax’ amplifier platform.

It’s released with the only slightly more demure Reference Signature SUB 1, which features six 8in drivers, delivers 3,400 watts peak power and is 52cm high.

Prices have been announced in the US as $7,500 and $3,500, which we would expect to translate to similar figures sterling on this side of the pond.
