Paradigm Seismic 110 'Bulldog' subwoofer

9 juin 2010

The latest subwoofer from US bass specialist Paradigm may be small, but it’s designed for power.

The Seismic 110 subwoofer, nicknamed ‘the Bulldog’, is only 30cm in any direction, but it’s driven by a full 1kW of power. Paradigm claims the small size/high power differential is possible because of a “unique implementation of the ultra-low-distortion split-coil drive woofer coupled with the muscle of an 850-watt RMS Ultra-Class D amplifier, capable of delivering 1500W RMS continuous and a 2550W dynamic peak”.

The exterior shell is a die-cast monocoque design while the woofer itself boasts an FEA-optimised motor structure together with integral heatsinking to ensure cool running. The 10in woofer cone is capable of two inches of travel, which helps it achieve its ultra-low tones, while the dual spider suspension and FEA-optimised ribbed surround help keep things under control when the going gets loud.

Paradigm is also offering its Perfect Bass Kit (PBK-1TM) as an optional extra, which analyses the Seismic 110’s response in any room, then sets the equalisation parameters to obtain optimal sound.

Paradigm’s Marketing Manager, Mark Aling, said: “This subwoofer is a true collaboration between our industrial, mechanical, electronic and acoustical design team; it has no off-the-shelf parts but is custom built to showcase how form follows function.”

The Paradigm Seismic subwoofer is available now for £1,250.
