Headphone specialist Sennheiser has announced its new RS wireless headphone range.

All models in the three-strong range include Sennheiser’s own KLEER technology offering peak 2.37MB/s bit rate on the 2.4GHz band, so promising to carry full CD-quality stereo audio, without lossy compression. Each also offers adaptive baffle damping and neodymium magnets plus volume and function controls on the over-ear ’phones, and comes with a detachable RCA cable and two AAA rechargeable batteries for the noise cancelling tech.

The RS160 (£140) is a closed-back model that comes with a dinky 97mm diameter transmitter that can be plugged into MP3 player, phone or laptop either at home or on the move. It can deliver sound to up to four people over 20m and can do it for up to 24 hours on two AA batteries.

The RS170 (£180) is also closed-back and includes 3D Surround and Dynamic Bass options, which Sennheiser suggests makes it ideal for TV and movie watching. It’s certainly intended more for home use, with the larger transmitter doubling as a cradle and charging dock, and offering up to 80m range.

The RS180 (£230) promises the best audio performance of the group with its open back design. Dynamic compression is on offer to improve speech recognition and the volume of each ear can be individually adjusted. The earpads are of soft velour and the transmitter can pump sound to up to four listeners over a range of up to 100m.

All models are available now.
