Clearaudio claims the latest version of its award-winning Emotion turntable is more than just an upgrade. It has a new 20mm thick acrylic chassis, height adjustable feet, a 28mm thick precision CNC-machined GS-PMMA acrylic platter plus a high mass motor damping base and a new aluminium arm base.
The main bearing shaft is machined from an exclusive new ceramic alloy which Clearaudio claims delivers a finer polished surface than has so far been obtainable in turntable bearings. The bearing does not use a ball bearing or a thrust pad, and Clearaudio says that its Ceramic Magnetic Bearing avoids any point of load so eliminating bearing friction, wear and noise. The separate motor is entirely isolated from the chassis, driving the platter via a Clearaudio ‘silent belt’ at 33.3 or 45rpm. Clearaudio claims this joint-less silicon-based drive belt transfers significantly less noise into the platter than traditional rubber types. The Emotion SE is fitted with Clearaudio’s own Satisfy Carbon Directwire tone arm, a twin-axis design made from carbon fibre, and the Aurum Beta-S Wood cartridge.
