Home Theater Cruise 2005 : Day 3

10 novembre 2005

A full day at sea and a very full day of conferences !

A heavy schedule on this Monday morning to start the week with five (yes 5 !) top level conferences on the program today. Between the presentations we had the opportunity to talk with some of those doing the presentations as well as a number of the "major players" in the Home Theater field, and once back in Paris we will be encoding the clips to bring you these interviews in streaming video.

Our very hectic conference schedule as you can see for yourself below :

All About Video Processor Design
9:00 - 11:00 - Josh Allen, DVDO; William Bleha, PhD, JVC D-ILA Technology Group; Jim Burns, Runco International; Jed Deame, Silicon Optix's Teranex Unit; Robert Haeflin, Genesis Microchip, Inc.; Joe Kane, Joe Kane Productions; Jim Peterson, Lumagen, Inc.; Gordon Shackleford, Faroudja laboratories

A prestigeous panel that explored the requirements and different aspects of video processor design in the age of digital displays.

Determining Video Processor Performance
11:00 - 13:00 - Joe Kane, Joe Kane Productions
This presentation by the author of Digital Video Essentials went deep into the use of test signals available to end users to determine video processor performance as it relates to optimizing video display.

Screen Types & Performance
14:00 - 15:30 - Don Stewart, Stewart Filmscreen Corporation
This presentation focused on the performance characteristics of various screen materials used with video projectors.

A Case Study of sound tracks
15:30 - 17:00 : Brant Biles (Mi Casa Multi-Media)
This conference was a particularly interesting demonstration of how sound tracks are mixed for the DVD as compared to a professional Cinema Theater.

2.35:1  Constant height Home Theater
17:00 - 18:00 : Jim Burns, Runco International
This was an excellent demonstration of the use of anamorphic lenses to optomize watching Cinemascope® movies.

A long day, but more was to come ! To top off the evening was a special party organized by Runco, in Halloween costumes (!), what more can we say (more pictures in our Photo Report to be on line once we get back to Paris !)

Tomorrow is another day...
