Neat Acoustics has launched a new compact floorstander speaker with the Ultimatum XLi.

Based on the standmount Ultimatum XLS, the new speaker uses a floorstanding cabinet to allow separate internal volumes for mass-loading and crossover isolation.
It stands 1m tall, with a cabinet made from slow-growing birch ply, with a controlled-density fibreboard front baffle joined by a polyethylene membrane to create an inert platform for the bass/mid and treble drivers.
Two 16.8cm Neat bass/mid drivers mounted isobarically handle the low end, while a 26mm Sonomex domed XL tweeter sits above them in its own enclosure. There’s also a brace of upward-firing EMIT 25mm planar-ribbon supertweeters, separated in their own enclosure at the top.
The bass/mid units have rear-firing ports and there’s a separate cabinet section for the crossover, with extra weight in the base to lower the speaker’s centre of gravity. Sensitivity is 87dB/W/m, while the recommended amplifier power is 25-200 watts, with an average impedance of six ohms.
The Neat Acoustics Ultimatum Xli goes on sale in July in a choice of finishes – black ash, walnut, oak, figured birch and rosenut – for around £6,000. Piano black and Neat’s own Velvet Cloud and Red Velvet Cloud high gloss finishes will also be available as premium options.
