Sony Qriocity music streaming launches in UK

24 décembre 2010

Sony has launched its Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity streaming service in the UK.

Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity

The launch comes a month after Sony’s Qriocity video-on-demand platform for its Bravia TVs.

The new subscription-based service will offer millions of tracks from all four major record labels (Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Music) as well as some of the bigger independent labels. Users can choose individual tracks or stream personalised ‘channels’.

Features include SensMe, already seen on some Sony Ericsson mobile phones, which allows you to browse tracks by mood as well as artist and genre.

Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity is available through a range of Sony devices, including the latest 2010 Bravia TVs, Blu-ray players and home theatre systems, as well as PlayStation 3 consoles and Vaio PCs. The service is provided in partnership with Omnifone.

Kazuo Hirai, president of Networked Products & Services Group, Sony Corporation, said: “As we continue to expand Qriocity globally, these services ‘powered by Qriocity’ offer a single ID log-in and wallet solution, and empower users to easily consume content including music and video across a growing number of integrated devices.

“Seamless accessibility to content through these fresh user experiences will enrich Sony’s network service offerings and continually add value to the unique aspects of Sony’s network-enabled products.”

Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity is available in the UK and Ireland now but unlike some of the other music streaming options available, such as Spotify, we7 or Last.fm, there’s no free subscription option. Instead you’ll need to register your Sony device online and then sign up for a basic subscription for £3.99 per month, which offers Last.fm-style ‘radio’ playback or a premium version for £9.99, which adds on-demand playback as well as a 30-day free trial.
