iPod/iPhone accessory specialist Gear4 has launched the UnityRemote, a device that can turn Apple’s iPod, iPhone and even iPad into a whole-system remote control.
Gear4 UnityRemote Gear4 UnityRemote system
The UnityRemote system is made up of an app for the handheld device, as well as a battery-powered infrared ‘flasher’ unit with 360-degree coverage. Powered by three AA batteries, it issues infrared commands to your components, but connects to the iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth.
The software can be customised to control either individual devices or a complete system, and you can use it to build a control screen combining different functions, such as the play controls for a Blu-ray player and the volume settings for an AV receiver.
You can also set up ‘events’ – macros which combine a series of commands such as turning everything on at once when you come into a room.
The Gear4 UnityRemote is available now for £99 from John Lewis.
