Sony has confirmed that it will add another 3D-ready Blu-ray player to the pair it has already announced.
The £200 BDP-S470 is due for release in May and will sit beneath the BDP-S570 (£230 – also out in May) and the flagship BDP-S770 (£299 – earmarked for a September release).
The 3D-ready bit, as opposed to the straightahead 3D of the more expensive models, means that it will require a software upgrade to become fully 3D capable, but that won’t be available until June.
It will be able to access a Wi-Fi network however, though you’ll need an optional USB dongle, which will offer access to Sony’s Bravia Internet Video service, whwith its BBC iPlayer and movie streaming from Lovefilm among other services.
The BDP-S470 will include 1GB of onboard memory for BD-Live content, plus there’s support for DiVX HD and MKV video formats as well as onboard HD audio decoding. Bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio can also be sent directly to an AV amplifier.
