Sony S series Walkman with speakers

3 novembre 2009

Sony may have invented portable audio with its Walkman brand, but it’s long since been usurped by Apple’s iPod. The Japanese company isn’t giving up however, and it’s continuing to innovate with its S series Walkman players.

The latest S540 player features built-in stereo speakers allowing you to play your tunes aloud to all and sundry, rather in the manner of a mobile phone. It has a 2.4in LCD screen as well as an FM tuner and claims a battery life of up to 42 hours of playback.

It comes with Sony’s Content Transfer Software, but the company suggests you should be able to use it with iTunes 8.1 if your tunes are already stored Apple-side.

Another cool trick is the ability to download BBC iPlayer shows from your PC and transfer them to the S Series Walkman for viewing on the go.

The Sony NWZ-S544 (8GB) and NWZ-S545 (16GB) are available now priced around £110 and £120 respectively.
