3D was a big part of IFA this year, with all the big brands backing the format.
IFA last year showcased a number of 3D based products but this year it was everywhere. With companies set to launch 3D in 2010 into your home, is this the future?
Whilst adding something different, manufactures are trying to get you to upgrade to 3D sets and glasses in order for them to survive in this economic climate.
Panasonic showcased the new movie Avitar which we have to say does look great in 3D, Sony’s new film Cloudy with a chance of meatballs looked great fun for all the family and JVC showcased what can be achieved with standard footage converted into 3D.
Some manufactures try to do 3D without glasses but does it really work? would you and your family/friends watch a movie or sports with glasses on for two hours?
3D may work well with the medical industry or as JVC pointed out for CAD drawings but with LED,OLED and 4K2K do we need 3D.
One big market could be 3D gaming, Sony utilising the power of the PS3 playing Wipeout was used to full effect and gave real depth to the game.
Only time will tell and if consumers want to have 3D then there will be plenty to choose from in 2010.
