Following news of its CD6003 CD player, Marantz has announced details of an accompanying integrated stereo amplifier, the PM6003. Like the player, the PM6003 is an update of Marantz’s 6002 products and adopts the company’s ‘reference standard’ chassis design and ‘M1’ front panel, bringing it into line with the rest of Marantz’s current, curvy look.
The PM6002’s sonic signature was taken as the starting point by Marantz’s designers but they’ve now added a lower impedance, case-shielded toroidal transformer as well as a more advanced power transformer, capable of handling a higher current than the older model and matched with a new extruded aluminium heat sink. The PM6003 can push out 2×45 watts of power and includes six line-in audio inputs as well as two pairs of gold-plated speaker cable connections.
Combining the PM6003 with the CD6003 offers facilities for both older and newer sources. The amplifier contains a moving magnet phono stage allowing plug and play with a vinyl turntable, while the CD player includes a USB connection for iPod or other MP3 players.
Both products will be on sale in August for £299 each.
