Toshiba continues to expand its range of HD-DVD players and introduces two new players in Japan.
The new HD-XA2 and HD-XF2 are Japanese versions of the HD-XE1 and HD-E1. They both offer improved speed in loading and response times over the former versions.
The high-end HD-XA2 is equipped with a 1.3 HDMI output that provides support for the superior high-definition images of 1080p output. It supports Deep Color technology, an optional standard under HDMI that improves representation of color tones and achieves finer color gradation (YcbCr 4:4:4). The Silicon Optix chip guarantees up-conversion of standard DVD to a resolution of up to 1080p. The video decoder works in a 12bit/297MHz frequency.
The midrange HD-XF2 is equipped with a 1.2a HDMI output for high-definition images up to 1080i. DVDs can be upscaled to 1080i and 720p. The HD-XF2 measures 430×345×65mm which makes it the world’s thinnest on the market today at 65 mm! This entry level model lacks some of the features of it “big brother” like a coaxial numerical output or the RS-232C port but both players offer advanced navigation and interactive features unique to the HD DVD format and super quality images.
Available in Japan at the end of December with MSRP prices ranging from 400$ to 800$.
