Boasting a whopping 12 000:1 contrast ratio (yes you read that correctly !), this new “Full HD” DLP video projector from Sharp is for the “high-end-happy-few” with the announced price tag for the XV-Z21000 in the range of 9,000 € plus the taxes in Europe. But let’s dream a bit anyway with the specifications.
The XV-Z21000 is a big baby weighing in at 9.5 kilos with sizeable proportions of 475×410.2×172.5mm. It uses the new single 1920 × 1080p DLP chip, which is coupled with a 7 segment color wheel that turns at four times the speed of the previous model. The optics are high quality and benefit from a 1.35X zoom. It’s the dynamic Iris that enables the 12 000:1 contrast ratio.
Another plus is the integration of the BrillantColor™ from Texas Instruments which will create a display output which “looks brighter and more intense” than the projector’s increased level of 1000 ANSI lumens.
Just briefly, BrilliantColor™ technology uses innovations in image processing to improve the optical efficiency of DLP® projection systems while expanding the capability of RGB color wheels by enabling the utilization of wider color gamuts with the utilization of additional color filters. By adding yellow, cyan, and magenta colors to the rendering of the image, projectors can maintain bright white points while providing deeper red, green, and blue color points. End brightness can be improved by as much as 50%.
In addition, the BrilliantColor™ algorithms are implemented using floating point arithmetic for greater computational accuracy which results in less noise and more accurate colors at the display. Other features of the XV-Z21000 include two HDMI ports, one DVI port in addition to the"standard" connectivity which should be able to cater to all the video equipment you will want to hook up. Sharp also announces 3,000 hours of lamp life.
