The new KHT3000 series egg will expand the KEF KHT family product range, building on the company’s most successful speaker system so far, the KHT2005.2.
Based on the Uni-Q “concentric driver” technology, it’s been a smash hit since its launch. Not all households enjoy the space of gigantic living rooms - you know, those you discover when reading a brochure that gives you the visual impression that a 57 inches flat screen is the size of a PSP display... Hence the success of such formulas, especially when one considers the huge progresses achieved in the recent past. KEF then; Aerospace technology had inspired KEF engineers when they developed the Uni-Q driver, which has the tweeter mounted in the centre of the bass/mid cone. The sound is thus generated from a single spot.
The new KHT3005 will offer a number of improvements, including :
Four satellites that are enclosed in cast-aluminium. KEF has re-engineered the drive units that are “radically” new to provide smoother, louder and cleaner sound. The center speaker has two additional 75mm (3.0 inches) bass drivers to enhance clearness. KEF insists at this point, saying that the center speaker plays a key-role in a 5.1 or even 7.1 system, thus the need for extra care. A 250 mm sub-woofer (10 inches) driver and an “ABR” Auxiliary Base Radiator powered by a 250 Watt which is encased in an acoustically inert container. A “SmartBass connect and go” process simplifies the set-up. Overall, the cabinet volume has increased with a better result, especially in the bass range, and even if your toddler might confound the sub with a very big cookie, the blending with the satellites is impressive…
The KHT3005 comes to the market in the spring, at a retailer price in the region of £1000.
