Oregon-based InFocus (NASDAQ:INFS) projector maker had leaked its intention to clearly differentiate its "business/education" lines from their "home" offer. We now now more about the next generation that they will unveil at the CES 2006. Three models will be launched, dubbed IN72, 74, and 76. Indeed, with their alien look design, they are radically more beautiful than those currently visible on their website, with the exception of the Tri DLP SP777, which immediately comes to mind and has probably inspired the design of this new IN7X series.
Infocus claims refined and minimalist "Gloss Black", and high performances for the three newborn babies. Brian Carskadon, Head of the Consumer Division at InFocus, has clearly said that the final specifications will be unveiled at the CES 2006. The projectors will be available during the fist quarter 2006 in the USA, and hopefully in February or March in Europe.
The three models will be aesthetically identical, same chassis and design. What will distinguish them will be the DLP Matrix resolution. InFocus claims that they will be provided with all necessary connectivity for HD displays, although the back view (below) looks minimalist as well...
Nice and minimalist, but frugal connectivity?
No information was released about the contrast ratio, but it is believed to be as high as 3000:1, although several comments already dispute this. If this is true, the new InFocus INX would play in the same category as the NEC HT1000, Epson PowerLite Cinema 550, or the Optoma H57, every of them being highly praised. Among the three, only the IN76 would be a native 720p, while the mid-range IN74 and IN72 would be 480p and 16:9 devices.
They're all mounted on a PC monitor-like swivel, which is removable for wall or ceiling installation.
To be continued... at the CES 2006, where we shall be present.
