Stunning contrast ratios. This is what Sony delivers. Its new lines of HD-ready machines, dubbed VPL HS60 and VPL100 seem impressive.Yet there's another production at Sony that go further up, and that's the VPL-VW100 HD projector, delivering 15000:1 and 1920 x 1080 resolution
As for the HS60, Sony has chosen the 3LCD technology using separate panels for green, red, and blue. The uniformity of the picture is ensured through an All Range Crisp Focus (ARC-F) lens. Its resolution is 2.8 million pixels, or 1280x720x3, and it delivers 1200 ANSI lumens. It also features HDMI connection and a 12 bit panel driver. users can adjust colors to better suit their personal tastes, thanks to Sony's Real Colour Processing.
Whites are whiter in the bright scenes, and blacks are deeper in the dark scenes; this is made possible through the Advanced Iris Control technology that control the shutter aperture.
The HS60 is flexible to set up due to its lens shift feature. Horizontal and vertical adustments of the HS60 allows off-centre placement. The All Range Crisp Focus (ARC-F) lens features a 1.6 times zoom to achieve a wider range of throwing distances: Sony announces that, for example, a 100-inch, or 2.5 metres, diagonal screen size can be achieved 2.9 to 4.6 metres from the screen.
Fan noise is reduced to only 23dB. Black and silver finishes.
Pricing: on price comparison engines, you can find it a little under £2000.

We have less info on the VPL-VW100, only that it uses SXRD panels (while the HS60 is using conventional TFTs). Three of these Silicon X-tal Reflective Display panels (that's what SXRD means in this beautiful world of acronyms) provide HD resolution. The fan noise goes down 22dB.
The VPL-VW100 projector has 400W xenon lamp, and DVI and HDMI inputs. It also has the All Range Crisp Focus (ARC-F) lens, this time with a 1.8 zoom.
Last, it is very stylish with its curvy, grey looks (much more, actually, than the HS60) and high-end. It comes in the UK in January with an estimated price of £7000.
