The Akurate loudspeakers series won’t surprise those who are looking for high quality, top value for money systems… Every time Linn unveils new lines of devices they receive thorough attention from the whole profession, including old sparring partners. Here Linn strikes again, and delivers a technology which is adapted to the latest sound and vision formats, such as SACD. It is a magnificent, “four distinct, acoustically matched loudspeakers” that are flexible enough to convey high quality Stereo, multi channel music, and Home Theatre.
The Akurate system comprises the 242 floorstanding, 212 rear speakers, 225 central, and finally the 221 subwoofer. The three first come equipped with Linn’s new “3K Driver Array” that delivers a single point sound source and improves high frequency response. The 6 ½ inch bass drive unit does its work, i.e. delivering pure bass… Talking about bass, the 221 sub unit which is a 8 inch amplified (and servo controlled).
The finishes available are maple, Cherry, Rosenut or Black.
Here are the key technical features as described by Linn.
• Linn 3K Driver Array* creates a consistent single point sound source independent of cabinet type.
• High quality 6 1/2 inch Sandwich Cone drive units deliver pitch accurate, musical bass.
• Acoustically matched double-flared ports with unique "rifled" design.
• Unique Linn loudspeaker configuration system allows simple alternation between Aktiv and passive configuration.
• Bass extension feature - allows complete flexibility to tailor bass response of AKURATE 242 and 225 to suit the listening environment.
• AKURATE 221 Bass extension loudspeaker deploys servo-controlled amplification and can be tailored to suit the listening environment.
• A cast metal stand provides a solid, stable foundation for the floor standing AKURATE 242 and in conjunction with a column, supports the compact AKURATE 212 and AKURATE 225 centre-channel speakers.
The result is, as it has been already noted in various reviews, outstanding. All critics underline this “seamless sound” characteristic giving out the impression to literally bathe in sound.
