It’s new gear time down in the Onkyo camp, because since the beginning of September, the company has been churning out a constant stream of new gear. Today, we’re looking at one particular piece of kit, because after having unveiled the new universal DVD players, Onkyo are presenting a new integrated unit to be added to the latest top line material on the market by the brand.

Known as the TX-SR800, this is a latest generation integrated unit which, like some of its competitors disposes of a number of important features that will put it under the Home Cinema spotlight:

- THX Select Surround EX certification,
- Operation in Extended mode here benefiting the supplementary rear speakers,
- A WRAT amp stage (meaning Wide Range Amplifier Technology) pumping out 7 x 100 Watts under 8 Ohms,
- A new series of N/A converters allowing the management of audio streams encoded in 24-bit / 192 kHz and24-bit / 96 kHz,
- An all-purpose decoder capable of reading pretty well all the formats on the market - Dolby Digital EX, ProLogic II, DTS-ES Matrix and Discrete, DTS Neo:6 as well as the latest DTS 24/96,
- Introduction of a video circuit compatible with HDTV (50 Hz) and allowing for the conversion of composite signals in S-Video,
- Possibility of feeding audio to another room in "Zone2" mode.

Moreover, if you’re one of these people who needs a lot of interfacing solutions, you should know that the TX-SR800 will be right up your street:

Video Stage:
- S-Video inputs
- 3 composites inputs,
-2 component "assignable" inputs,
- 3 S-Video outputs,
- 3 composite outputs,
- 1 component output,

Audio Stage:
- 6 analogue inputs via RCA,
- 4 digital optical inputs (assignable),
- 3 assignable digital coaxial inputs,
-1 optical output,
-3 analogue outputs via RCA,
- One 7.1 multi-channel input.

With an excellent finish, the TX-SR800 characterises itself through the presence of an ultra reinforced chassis that limits the propagation of static caused by ambient vibration. In black or aluminium anodised finish, it’s delivered with a programmable infrared remote control.
It has been launched, for the moment, on the US market, for a price of $1000.
