The Formula 3000 of the Sound World
News from this manufacturer with the arrival of a new AV Processor – the AV30R, stemming directly from the spec sheet for the already well known AV32R, the latter is nonetheless a true concentration of high technology.
As I mentioned above, Tag MacLaren have based this unit on the AV32R. The Analogue Devices Shark 21065L and Siemens C161RI microprocessors, those that are a reminder of the success of the AV32R, also find themselves within this new mount. They are used for the decoding of formats such as Dolby Digital, Surround EX, DTS, DPL2, DTS ES and Neo 6. The manufacturer has also announced coming upgrades (DTS 96/24 for example), which are proposed to users in the form of a software update. In any case, we have discovered, on the brand’s official site, that various evolutions are available in the form of paid options, such as an extension to EX, DTS ES and HDCD formats, the AC3 RF module. It should be added that all the audio formats cited above are not necessarily included in the basic DV30R model which is priced at 3,000 Euros. The latter is in fact delivered with a software version that includes DPL2. To benefit from the rest, one has to make a specific request, specifying that you want the “EX” version. This will cost you no less than 3,400 Euros. In any case, it’s still cheaper than an AV32R which will set you back 1,000 Euros more.
In the basic specs, we find:
- 24 bit/96 kHz converters,
- 6 analogue inputs via RCA that can function in DP2 and Surround 5 (proprietary format) modes,
- 1 x 5.1 format input,
- 5 digital inputs including one optical,
- 8 video inputs, including 4 S-Video and 4 Composite,
- 4 video outputs including 2 S-Video and 2 Composite,
- OSD may be selected on one of the Composite and S-Video outputs,
- TAGtronic Bus proprietary link,
- Silver or Black finish.
