The choice of a subwoofer is very often difficult, due to the massive choice on the market. To facilitate your job, for those of you looking for a bass box with exceptional value for money, I invite you to read this and to get along and listen as soon as possible to the item we’re about to mention here. Dantax, the originators of this unit, are not very big in the active subwoofer market, however are launching a really incredible product in the early part of this year: the A100.



Coming in Black Ash finish, covering a structure composed of a thick layer of MDF, in which the electronics & speaker are nestled. Let’s start with the general look of the beast, because this little bass box only measures… wait for it… 32 cm across and 33 deep. Weighing-in at 13 Kilos this almost perfect cube has a front panel in black lacquer, in which two large circular vents are to be found, allowing for the efficient evacuation of the air disturbed by the movement of the speaker cone. It’s worth noting that the A100 is exceptionally well finished, because Dantax have remarkably decorated the unit with ash veneer. To protect the speaker, the manufacturer has even gone so far as adding on an elegant removable protective cover in black fabric.

The speaker cone is 21 cm in diameter, delivering high volume (97 dB), and with a professional design allowing it to meet all the different demands in terms of audio-video listening. Composed in a very rigid bowl where a paper membrane is placed on a Neoflex suspension system, allowing for exceptional clearance.

On the rear panel, the A100, receives electronic kit dedicated to filtering as well as the power block for the unit. Dantax dispose of an amplification system pumping out almost 70 watts (under 8 ohms), for an adjustable frequency range between 50 Hz and 120 Hz. In terms of interfacing, nothing has been forgotten, from simple speaker input blocks to a "sub" input (via RCA). There’s even an "input/output" (via RCA) allowing for the linking in unison of several units.



This subwoofer is the ideal compromise for those who want to have a discrete and efficient unit, both for Audio and Video. It has to be said that at a price of 379.60 Euros, the Dantax A100 strongly looks like making waves in the market for active subwoofers.
