DENON DTH-700

1 février 2002

Elegance and Performance

Denon had already unveiled it at the IFA show in Berlin… but we wanted to show it to you, because the brand this week made official its re-commercialisation. It’s in fact in the form of a "complete" Home Cinema pack (combi unit and speakers), that Denon will next month be launching their DTH-700.

ADV-700

The ADV-700 is an elegant combination player – a DVD/ Amplifier/5 Channel tuner of reduced dimensions and finished in raw aluminium.

Integrating latest generation electronics, the machine is equipped with a new multi-channel decoder allowing for, in addition to DTS and Dolby Digital, the management of the Prologic II format.
A little reminder: DPII is a format which was recently developed in the Dolby laboratories. It reproduces Surround Sound in 5.1 from any analogue or digital stereo signal (VHS, TV, Cable, Satellite…). This sound process utilises a matrix-based decoding technology. It’s worth noting firstly that with Dolby Prologic II the rear channels are in stereo while in ordinary Dolby Prologic they’re in mono because the bandwidth covers the entire sound spectrum, while for Prologic it is limited to 7 kHz.

The ADV-700 disposes of amplification reaching 35 watts (under 6 ohms) on six channels… and all this for a frequency response of 10Hz–70 kHz and for a signal-noise ratio of 98 dB in direct mode. Note also that the DVD drive used on the ADV 700 is equipped with a double focus, allowing it, along with the aid of a new video section, to read a multitude of new formats: CD R/CD-RW, MP3 and DVD. The latter is, like most European DVD’s, uniquely compatible with zone 2 and with PAL and NTSC standards.

When it comes to the interface, the user isn’t left out in the cold. Despite the absence of component input/outputs, you’ll find:

- 3 composite inputs and 2 composite outputs,
- 3 S-Video inputs and 2 S-Video outputs,
-1 Scart RGB,
- 2 optical inputs and 1 output,
- 5 analogue inputs and 2 analogue outputs.
- We regret just one last thing… the lack of pincher clips for the connection of the speaker cables.

Like all good audio/video amplifiers, it will be possible to configure the machine quite easily thanks to an on screen menu display. It suffices to hook the unit up to your TV, plasma or projector via a video cable in order to set the parameters of the speakers, amplifier and decoding. In addition, in Memory Plus mode, you’ll be able to save your own personal settings on the different sources.
To conclude, it has to be said that this combi system is, as we mentioned earlier, equipped with an AM/FM Tuner allowing you to pre-set 40 stations which can be selected with the rather ergonomic remote control unit which goes by the name of the Glo-Key...

SC-50HTB Speaker System

This composition is elegantly realised, composed of five small speakers and a mini active subwoofer. Each of the speakers (apart from the subwoofer) is:

- Insulated,
- Made up of two speaker cones – 1 paper woofer of 8.7 cm and 1 silk tweeter of 2 cm.
- The central speaker is made up of two woofers and one tweeter… all being the same size as those previously cited. Moreover, the surround and front speakers have a bandwidth of 120Hz–22kHz, while that of the central speaker is 120Hz–27kHz. In power terms, each of the five satellites authorises a nominal power of 30 watts and a peak power of 100 watts, for some 85 dB of sensitivity.

Let’s not overlook the bass box, because it has the privilege of being doted with a 35 watt integrated amplifier with, as a complement, a 13 cm paper speaker. Cut off frequency is, for the occasion, able to be adjusted via a potentiometer between 30Hz et 120kHz.

This All-in-one system is still not available for sale, however it’s possible to find the different parts in the shops, the DVD/Amp/Tuner and speaker sets being sold separately>.
The price on the full set coming on sale in February is 1800 Euros.
