Integrated Machines are All The Rage!
After Denon and Yamaha who, as we announced yesterday, have launched big new integrated machines, now it’s the turn of Marantz to fire off some artillery rounds, in launching a quality sound amplifier –the SR9200.
As opposed to their colleagues Denon, who have obtained the new THX Ultra 2 approval, the SR9200 limits itself to the good old THX Ultra (Is this a choice?), which nevertheless allows it to be placed among the top of the pack, with a pretty impressive spec sheet.
Like all good amps of the moment, the SR9200 bristles with the latest developments in audio decoding: DTS-ES Discrete, DTS-ES Matrix, Neo6 Cinema / Music and Dolby Pro Logic II. This being said, we regret the absence of DTS 24/96, which according to Marantz, should be subject in the coming months to a software upgrade.
With the onset of DVD audio, Marantz have equipped the unit with a set of Crystal converters, running at 24 bits/192 kHz. We also note the presence of an HCDC decoder, which is accompanied, as ar emost amps of this category, with a direct listening mode, dedicated to stereo reproduction.
Power is pumped through seven channels peaking at 140 watts under 8 ohms, managed by two nice big condensers accompanied for the occasion by a toroidal transformer coming out of the brand’s Signature Laboratories.
What about the "ins and outs" section? Here in fact, we find a plethora of solutions, from rimple composite to component, not to forget S-Video, and also the fact that it is possible for you to manage audio and video separately in multi-room mode. The SR9200 also offers the possibility to the user to link up, via the 6.1 analogue inputs, to a multi-channel audio processor or any other SACD player.
The SR9200 also has a RS232 port, allowing you to upgrade at will. It suffices to connect the amplifier to a PC via this connection.
In addition to this kit, we also find an AM/FM radio tuner with 50 memorisable pre-selections. The icing on the cake… the SR9200 is delivered with a new Prontopro: the Marantz version, placing the system at almost US $3200. The system should be on the market from March, when it will be presented at the Mondial Image Photo Son.
