Home Cinema on PC
Facing our stand at CeBIT, one could find the German branch of Yamaha, dedicating almost all their surface area to their entire range of audio equipment for PC… Somewhat of a sign from the manufacturer, forerunners in audio processing, as to the increasing importance of the concept of PC Home Cinema.
From simple stereo systems to those allowing for multi-channel reproduction, Yamaha exhibited the totality of their multimedia range, in particular, the TSS-1 pack. This system that we unveiled for you during our
article of 26th February 2001, was pumping out the watts for the occasion, and was accompanied by new audio/video PC systems from the “Personal Series”.
These different systems are presented in the form of an elegant casing in with silvery finish (around the size of a ream of A4 paper, placed generally in a vertical position near the monitor (note that while other brands have opted for this solution too, Yamaha was the precursor). The systems in the Personal Series bring together three references each destined to meet specific needs of the user:
- The AP-U70 which acts as a stereo amp and Virtual Dolby Digital and DTS decoder;
- The DP-U50 - a simple Virtual Dolby Digital and DTS processor to which one has only to add two amplified speakers;
- The RP-U200 is the most complete integrated system of the Yamaha brand, including a double Dolby Digital and DTS decoder and amplification of 18 watts per channel.
We have also discovered, with an equal amount of surprise, the pleasure of the DPX-1, which Yamaha had been presenting discreetly. As we had announced for the occasion of our news of 2nd February 2001, it is indeed an extraordinary beast, illuminating for the occasion a two metre wide screen, in front of what could only be described as extremely delighted spectators.
