Wireless streaming specialist Sonos has announced a new, lower-priced speaker system with the Sonos Play:3.

The new streaming music system has three internal speakers (2x midrange, 1x tweeter), each powered by its own Class D amplifier. It has a bass radiator for the low end and measures an extremely compact 268×160×132mm. It can stream music via its own Wi-fi-style network and can be controlled using an iPod/iPhone or Android handset.

As with all Sonos products, you can combine several to use as a multi-room system. You can also pair up two Play:3s in one room and the system will automatically treat them as left and right channels, splitting the sound accordingly.

It can be connected to your computer directly via Ethernet cable, or wirelessly using one of Sonos’s Bridge units (£40). It also comes with the ability to play internet radio.

The Sonos Play:3 is available now for £260, around £100 less than the larger Play:5.
