Sony has announced a new range of Blu-ray recorders for the Japanese market, including some that are built into TVs.
The HX80R series is due to go on sale in mid-September and combines a 3D LCD TV with a 500GB hard disk and Blu-ray recorder. The sets feature edge-lit LED backlighting and will be available in 40, 46 and 55in screen sizes with prices expected to be between Y300,000 and Y440,000 (£2,270-£3,325).
Also on the way are six standalone BD recorders which will have hard disk capacity ranging from 320GB to 2TB. Each comes with a range of standby modes (instant, normal and low-power) with boot time on the former claimed as 0.5 seconds and power consumption as 18W, but dropping to 40 seconds and a vanishing 0.08W for the latter. They can also be programmed to vary the power consumption and boot times for different times of the day and will be able to record two HD programmes at once. Prices are expected to be between Y90,000 (£680) to Y270,000 (£2040).
