Naim NDX networked music player

Following on from the company’s Uniti series comes the Naim NDX high-end networked music player.

The new device boasts a similar feature set to the current Naim client units, but is designed to be used with the company’s reference series amplification and can also be upgraded by adding Naim’s XPS or PS555 external power supplies and a Naim DAC.

Naim NDX Networked Music Player

It’s designed specifically for streaming music over a network and features analogue and digital outputs, onboard internet radio (using the vTuner 5 Star service), an optional FM/DAB module, three digital inputs, digital connection for iPod/iPhone input and USB playback.

Control is via the supplied handset or a soon to be released version of Naim’s n-Stream iPod app, which can also control the Naim preamps.

The onboard DAC features SHARC DSP-based buffering with fixed clocks plus 16x oversampling and Naim’s own digital filtering algorithms.

The power supply uses a 200VA toroidal transformer with separate windings which feeds the power supplies for digital, analogue, DSP and clock sections. Key sections of the NDX are both physically and electrically separated, with optical connections used to improve isolation.

The NDX can stream MP3, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, AAC, WMA and Ogg Vorbis files, and supports gapless playback.

Wi-Fi is on board too, though Naim suggests using a wired Ethernet connection for the best performance.

The NaimNDX will go on sale in November for £2,995.
