Sony has announced a software upgrade that allows its Freesat TVs to receive BBC iPlayer.
Owners can now view the BBC’s free-to-air satellite TV service on their television by pressing the red button while watching BBC1, then entering the code 5483.
BBC iPlayer is currently being trialled with a controlled group of viewers, the first time the service has been shown on a subscription-free broadcast platform. Sony TVs join Humax Freesat HD or Humax Freesat+ set-top boxes in being able to offer the service to the general public. Further details are available on Freesat’s website.
Other manufacturers will be added as beta testing continues, with all Freesat HD receivers and TVs expected to be enabled with iPlayer over the next few months.
