Harman Kardon GLA-55 speaker reaches UK

7 décembre 2009

After much delay and hyperbole, speaker specialist Harman Kardon has finally released its dare-to-be-different high-end glass PC speaker, the GLA-55, in the UK.

First unveiled at last year’s IFA show in Berlin, the powered stereo speaker system has undergone some extensive audio tweaking before HK considered it ready for the public. It offers a stylised glass cabinet measuring 14×27cm and weighing a hefty1.2kg. Each two-way speaker comes with an Atlas bass/mid driver and a CMMD tweeter, plus a bass port underneath the main driver.

HK has also squeezed in a couple of proprietary technologies to improve the sound quality, including COE (Computer Optimised Equalisation) to help offer a broad, full soundstage across a wide listening area, and OCT (Optimised Compression Technology), which attempts to ensure clean, accurate sound even when the volume’s cranked way up. At least, that’s the theory.

As PC speakers go, they’re very much at the upper end – the Harman Kardon GLA-55 is on sale now for £750.
