Altec Lansing has announced two new portable iPod docks – the brash, retro-styled MIX and the altogether more svelte InMotion Classic iMT620.
The MIX takes its visual cue from eighties boom boxes and features chunky handles, large two-way speakers and a special cradle to hold your ‘Pod tight while you’re strutting your stuff on the street.
It has a 5.25in side-firing subwoofer and a similarly sized passive radiator which, along with bass-enhancing XdB technology, gives the impression of booming stereo. There’s also a seven-band graphic equaliser and no less than three separate music player inputs – one for iPod or iPhone and two 3.5mm jack inputs.
It can run off the mains or give you up to 30 hours of music from eight size D batteries in true boombox style, though it usefully has a built-in battery life display. While the MIX might be the Saturday night party starter, the Classic iMT620 is a much more subdued affair, better suited to the Sunday morning hangover, wherever you happen to find yourself.
This portable device has a dedicated iPhone/iPod dock, FM tuner, rechargeable battery offering up to five hours of playback and folds up to the size of a smallish book. It has a brace of 3in Neodymium drivers, LCD display and a remote control.
Both devices will be available in October with the MIX retailing for £270 and the InMotion Classic iMT620 available for £130.
