PMC goes FREE

7 juillet 2009

UK speaker manufacturer PMC is relaunching the high-end ‘wireless’ floorstanding speaker, the FREE FS1.

Previously available via custom install specialists Digital Plumbers, the speakers, designed by FREE but made by PMC, will now be available through all 55 of PMC’s UK dealers.

FREE’s history of in-wall designs with hidden wires was the inspiration when it came to designing the FS1, which uses Wi-Fi to connect to SONOS or Apple Airport Express wireless systems, so there’s no need for speaker cables. Several pairs can be linked together to offer a multi-room system that requires no installation – simply plug and play. But though they might banish unsightly speaker cables from your bijou home, they do however require power, so they’ll need to be plugged in at a conveniently located mains socket.

Available in satin black or satin white the slim-line, two-way speakers use PMC’s Advanced Transmission Line technology which the company claims offers unparalleled bass extension for a cabinet of this size (87×16×27cm), and which is a step up from PMC’s earlier GB1 model.

The FREE Active, which features a brace of built-in 150-watt class D amplifiers, retails at £3,800, while the more conventional FS1 Passive, which does without the internal amplifier, will set you back £1,800.
