At this years CES in Vegas both JVC and Sharp introduced Blu-ray infused into the HD screens. JVC are to release this summer the 42-inch LT-42B300, which is a 1080p panel, has 3 HDMI inputs and integrated ATSC-QAM tuner. Sharp introduced as part of their AQUOS range several HD screens from 32 inch up to 52 inch with a side-loading multi-slot for Blu-ray, DVD and CD content.
Now when LCD’s first came out with DVD slots built in the reliability of these lcd/dvd unit were bad at best. Over heating problems would be the main problem with discs getting stuck inside the LCD and no way of you getting it out. Not only this but once the lcd/dvd unit did go wrong you had to send the whole thing back meaning you lost not only your TV but also your DVD player!
Technology moves on and components get smaller creating less heat and better reliability. So with news that both JVC and Sharp are to release LCD screens with built in Blu-ray players let’s hope they have sorted out the over heating problems and reliability issues with today modern technology!
