It should be no surprise that JVC has won this year’s EISA Award for Projectors, as they have been bringing us for years now excellent models in their DLA line-up at an affordable price. While the JVC DLA-X55R is not a native 4K projector, their second generation “e-Shift2” technology up-converts 1,920 × 1,080 content to 3,840 × 2,160, (in 2D mode, as the projector also offer 3D capability). This means eight-million pixel images, or four times the pixels of 1080p HD images, all at an exceptional price point.
Traditionally JVC products offer excellent black levels, but this model takes us to a new level. It has the highest “Native” contrast ratio in its class (50,000:1), as the JVC DLA-X55R does not use a dynamic iris, giving both deep blacks and vivid whites thanks to their D-ILA technology.

The JVC Procision line-up of projectors are 3D enabled with many innovations for a brighter 3D picture as well as an upgraded Cross Talk Cancellation Circuit. Developed from JVC’s experience in broadcast 3D conversion systems, the JVC DLA-X55R also allows 2D content to be converted to 3D in real time.
Other features include a 2X optical zoom lens (1.4 to 2.8 throw ratio) featuring motorized focus, zoom & lens shift, so an excellent choice for home theatre installations. The improved 5 position Lens Memory function means settings can be easily stored for different picture formats including Cinemascope and 16:9 HDTV.
Here is what the EISA panel of judges had to say:
Designed for home theatre enthusiasts, the DLA-X55R offers an unprecedented picture quality for its price point. Light output and native contrast are highly impressive, while the colour reproduction is nuanced and natural. Sharpness is another strength, with JVC’s second-generation ‘e-Shift2’ detail enhancement technology displaying Full HD content with an astonishing level of detail that comes close to an Ultra HD sensation. Installation of the DLA-X55R is helped by its comprehensive setup features, including motorised horizontal and vertical lens shift, a 2x zoom and Lens Memory function, plus extensive calibration options and a range of excellent preset viewing modes.
