For those of you who are lucky enough to own an Anchor Bay DVDO iScan VP50, a new and free update is now available.
The new “firmware” in its 1.04 version holds the Film Technology that allows the system to be compatible with a 1080/24P video stream, with 24 pictures per second. Even better, the VP50 will now convert any standard or HD, interlaced or progressive source into 1080/24p!
The Anchor Bay DVDO iScan VP50 is a high-definition video processor and A/V hub that converts standard definition, high definition (including 1080p) and PC signals from your DVD player, HD-DVD player, Blu-ray Disc player, HD DVR, game console or PC to any output resolution between VGA and 1080p, including popular HDTV resolutions such as 720p and 1080i.
The VP50 serves as your complete A/V hub, providing audio/video switching that simultaneously eliminates A/V lipsync and allows a one wire connection to display for all of your video needs.
Some devices such as certain cable and satellite receivers will only output a progressive-scan signal, and a lot of them do not have high-quality deinterlacing necessary for pristine home theater. As such, these devices make deinterlacing errors and introduce artifacts into the picture. For this, the VP50 incorporates a function called PReP. PReP decodes a progressive-scan signal, essentially re-interlacing it, and then applies the VP50’s superior deinterlacing. This allows you to get unprecedented picture quality out of your set-top box or HD receiver, and results in a cleaner, sharper picture with far fewer deinterlacing artifacts.
