Northern Light inspired Projection Design brings HD projection to the top...

30 janvier 2006

Norwegian born ProjectionDesign is your typical Scandinavian breed; outrageously expensive, outrageously well finished and performing –well, you better be in good health to live up there! Maybe it's the Northern light, or these aurorae borealis that inspired the founders when they started ProjectionDesign. Whichever the cause, these guys deliver a finely tuned, precision machine...

Their newborn has been christened Model Three 1080 and as you can guess, “1080” indicates a High-Def capability, of which the “old” Model Three was not equipped.

sort of small manta ray in your Home Video room

It claims (at small aperture) a contrast ratio up to 7500:1. Not bad…! It uses the 0.95” 1080p DC3 Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) chip from Texas Instrument. DMD goes back a long way to 1987, when the first (analogue) DMDs were available, starting the chip’s career as… airline ticket printers, replacing scanners. DMD is at the core of all Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology, which, between us, represents more than 5 pct of Texas sales today… The success story continues, apparently.

That chip is capable to deliver the true High-Def 1920X1080 native resolution. In addition, ProjectionDesign’s “True Arch illumination” architecture, which is based upon the use of dual lamps, dual segment colour wheels, and light formatters, is aboard as well. So cute!

Big eye is modulable...

Texas Instrument –again- is supplying their “BrilliantColor” technology. This processing provides up to 6-color processing for single-chips and adds up to 50 percent brightness and saturation to mid-tone images for more vibrant colours.

The “Crystalio II” video processor, which comes with this cute ensemble to form a visual symphony, comprises internal software and manages control interfaces. It uses the Gennum (TSX:GND) Video eXcellence Processing technology (VXP) which combines proprietary technology to obtain outstandingly good images:

TruMotionHD(TM) 1080i-1080p adaptive de-interlacing maintains optimal image sharpness and resolution. FineEdge(TM) dynamic directional interpolation eliminates jaggy artifacts found in traditional de-interlacing algorithms. FidelityEngine(TM) image enhancements remove unwanted noise and improve detail for uncompromised image quality. RealityExpansion(TM) 10-bit image processing delivers eye-catching natural imagery.

The Action Three delivers adjustable output brightness, thanks to an individually adjustable lamp power setting providing the on-screen control of brightness from 500 to 2500 ANSI Lumens. Last, not less than six lenses are available to adjust to every Home Video installation.

It is delivered with Ethernet, RS-232, remote, and supports AMX and Creston control systems.

If you are driving a Bentley, or are a Lottery winner… about £15000.

A fantastic machine, though, that sort of things that get you to regret NO to be rich…
