Ultra flat sound system for flat screens...
Yamaha has announced imminent release of its new YSP-800 "Sound Projector", which is the little brother of the much acclaimed YSP-1.
The newborn targets the 32 inches screen market, and it prefigures the coming of a complete range of devices in this category, as well as several supplemental components, such as ultra thin subwoofers, will enrich this product segment. The YSP-800 obeys the same principles as the YSP-1.
For those not (yet) in the know, Yamaha's Sound Projector creates a true 5.0 sound space thanks to a set of speakers, miniature amplifiers, adequate DSPs, and multi-channel decoding. The ".1" sound is produced through an active subwoofer.
As in any integrated amplifier, the user will first connect to a multi-channel audio source (such as a DVD player), a flat screen or any other Video source.
As we said the YSP-800 is derived from the YSP-1, thus reproducing the same characteristics. Being, however, dedicated to the smaller than 32-in, it integrates twenty one 4cm (1.57-in) speakers (vs. 42 on the YSP-1) and two 8cm (3-in) subwoofers.
The YSP-800 decodes DTS, DTS:Neo6, Dolby Digital, and DP2. It delivers up to 82 Watts, which should satisfy most, if not all, Home Cinema users who are equipped with a 32-in screen.
Moreover, the YSP-800 comes with an automated set up system dubbed YPAO. This process allows to automatically set the system through a micro. It is directly derived from technologies already available on some of Yamaha's integrated devices.
The YSP-800 has already won the "Best Innovation Award" from the EISA. It should be priced in the area of EUR700 or £475.
