27 mai 2005

Sony Entertainment Corp will show prototypes of its PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3) at the Los Angeles Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3)between May 18th and 20th. This machine is believed to incorporate the world’s most advanced, super computer like Cell processor.

PS3 incorporates "Cell", a processor jointly developed by IBM, Sony Group and Toshiba Corporation. In addition, NVIDIA Corporation and SCEI have developed the RSX graphics processor, and Rambus Inc. provides the XDR memory. It comes along with Blu-ray Disc ROM technology that can store a maximum 54 GB (dual layer), thus delivering High Def quality. Not everyone will love it, but it also provide a highly secure environment using the most advanced copyright protection technology. Finally, PS3 authorises high quality display in 1080p(*) so far above 720p/1080i.

With its sci-fi sounding 2 teraflops capacity, one can assume that another leap is there, opening to a level of graphics never sen before. Not only characters and objects will get superior quality, but lanscapes and VR worlds will be rendered in real time. Hello gamers, be prepared...
