Optoma is a division of Coretronic Corporation, a Silicon Valley company that was started in 1991 and specialises in high-resolution digital and home video projectors for consumers, businesses, education, professional audio video, and CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association) channels.
At £3,495Optoma wishes to enter the mid-range DLP projector segment. The H78 is the successor to the successful H77. Being fully HD ready, the H78 can claim to deliver substantial enhancements in picture quality. Such improvements are, according to Optoma, based upon:
Faster pixel response time, allowing for higher contrast and brightness ratios
Enhanced PAL and 50Hz high definition image quality
Enhanced PAL colour accuracy for a large selection range of signal types
Improved PAL greyscale linearity, especially in dark areas of the image
The contrast ratio is now 3800:1; it uses the HD2+ Texas Instruments chipset plus a proprietary Dark Video Enhancement (DVE) 8-segment, five-speed colour wheel.
The H78 is quite silent with just 23dB of fan noise, and it also offers an HDCP-enabled DVI jack.
