ONKYO Envision Theater

All in One...

One tends to get used to seeing cool new Home Cinema gear from Onkyo … maybe too much so… After having unveiled their new range of universal Audio DVD and SACD players, the Japanese company has released a new "All in one" system, made up of a 5DVD/deoder/amp unit accompanied by six speakers. According to Onkyo, it will eventually step in to replace the DRS 2.2 system.

The Envision Theater LS-V500C, which has just been launched in the USA is, as mentioned above, a Home Cinema pack made-up of a system including five speakers and a main module working as a DVD/Decoder and amplifier. But let’s start with the speaker system which is characterised by the presence of five satellite style speakers and an active subwoofer. Each speaker in the kit is shielded and disposes of a power capacity of 100 watts.



Onkyo here proposes four identical satellites that can be used as frontal or surround speakers, as well as a central one to be placed on or near your screen. When it comes to the bass box, it comes with a 150 watt amplifier. The kit is good for a surface area of around 15 m2.

Looking at the DR-C500 DVD (module DVD), this is made-up of a main module including a 5 DVD carrousel as well as very complete electronics:
- Amplifier of 5 x 100 Watts per channel (20 Hz - 20 kHz under 8 Ohms)
- Compatible with DVD, CD, VCD, CD-R/RW and MP3 media
- Integrated decoder allowing for the decoding of Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro-Logic II, DTS and MP3 formats
- N/A 96 kHz/24-bit converters applied to all channels.

In the interfacing department, the DR-C500 DVD includes:
- 2 Digital Coaxial Inputs
- 1 Digital Optical Output
- 4 supplementary Audio/Video inputs for external units.


Moreover, there’s also an AM/FM tuner with 30 channel memories as well as a programmable infrared remote control allowing for the adjustment of various functions of the unit.

The LS-V500C Envision Theater system is available in the USA at a price of approx. $900. It’s possible to obtain the DR-C500 DVD by itself for around $600.
