The First HTiB with 6.1

Onkyo, who like the be seen as innovators, have announced, through a press release, the upcoming launch in the USA (and soon in Europe) of the first HtiB - "Home Theater in a Box", disposing of a DVD player, a speaker system and an audio-video amplifier allowing for the decoding of 6.1 format.

The HT-S755DVC, because it’s under this reference that we’ll soon find it in the shops, based on a TX-SR600 amplifier. The latter develops 105 watts per channel under 6 Ohms and disposes of the following formats: Dolby Digital-EX, DTS-ES, and Dolby ProLogic II.

Alongside, Onkyo have added a DVD player: the DV-CP500, which is a 5-disc carousel including progressive scan technology. In addition, it is compatible with CD/CD-R/CD-RW/VCD/MP3 and is accompanied for the audio stage by a set of converters running at 192 kHz/24-bit.

To finish, Onkyo complemented this electronic kit with a speaker system: the SKS-HT600, which is a 6.1 pack made up of an active subwoofer, two shielded front speakers mounted in Appolito, accompanied by a central speaker (also shielded) which can be placed above or below the diffuser. For the management of the rear speakers, Onkyo has supplied two small satellite speakers that are placed either side of the listener as well as a dipolar speaker for the rear position.

The HT-S755DVC system will be available in the USA from September for a price of $999. Moreover, in this same period, Onkyo should be launching two other HtiB packs:

- The HT-S655DVC (HT-R500 amplifier, DV-CP500 + SKS-HT500 5.1 speaker pack), price - $799.
- The HT-S650 (HT-R500 amplifier, DV-SP300Progressive Scan DVD Player, SKS-HT500 5.1 speaker pack) price $499.
