High Fidelity par excellence
In the conquest of the Home Video market for less than two years, Dantax has attempted to forge a reputation as a top specialist in launching products for hard bitten Home Cinema addicts. It’s for this reason, in order to follow the growth in their market share around Europe that the Danish group has decided to attack the "package" market, thanks to a new system.
Homecinema Scope … that’s the name of this elegantly designed package comprising 5 satellites and a bass box integrating amplification and AC3 decoding.
The Subwoofer
Not too "oversized", the subwoofer is built in a laminated black casing containing two 17 cm speakers in rubidium-iron-boron (paper) that are positioned asymmetrically. They allow, with the aid of a vent placed in the rear side of the casing, to obtain a bass that will be firmer and much heavier than that delivered by some of its competitors. At the heart of the system, it hosts, on a plate situated behind it, all the electronics necessary for the proper functioning of the system. The user is able to connect two audio sources, one via 5.1 input and the other by an auxiliary input. In terms of amplification, Dantax have not taken things lightly. It has to be said that the presence of a carefully chosen set of components allows the system to be powered at 180 Watts (via 6 discreet transistors), or 20 watts for each of the six channels and 80 watts for the subwoofer. We also note the presence of eight VU metres following the output levels (six channels, master, bass and treble levels).
Still in the same place we find an AC3 decoder that takes care of audio signals encoded in this format. In any case, it should be underlined that the absence of any digital input (optical/coaxial) means the obligatory utilisation of a compatible player… i.e. without 5.1 outputs. If you want to have multi-channel reproduction you would have to use a player with these kinds of outputs, which is somewhat ludicrous for a product of this apparent quality. According to Dantax this allows the Homecinema Scope to give better performance levels than with a coaxial or other digital cable in view of the separations.
In addition, the microprocessor only looks after Dolby Digital decoding. For DTS, you’ll have to buy a DVD player with this built-in (if you want full-stream DTS) that you should then plug into the corresponding inputs.
In terms of remote control, a "refined" remote control unit takes care of overall volume, selection of the two sources and the on/off control of the system. Dantax includes in the pack (and it’s rare for a pack of this category), two pairs of insulating points in gold plate.
The Satellites
The 5 satellites are identical. With ana-magnetic design, it’s possible to position them near your TV without getting spots on your screen. In design terms, we note that Dantax are going for exactly the same look as the Bose (of the same dimensions...). The same goes for the finish - with each benefiting from RCA interface in gold plate, while in the same place on the Bose speakers, you get simple wire pinchers as connectors. Here, each satellite is composed of two 4 cm speakers with paper cones, each delivering, as we mentioned above, 20 Watts
To our mind, the Homecinema Scope is an ideal compromise for those seeking a good balance between design and performance at a very attractive price.
The system is available through all Dantax distributors at a price of 760 Euros with the following accessories: l
Two stands for the main speakers
Three wall supports
The cables necessary for the connection of the satellites.
Four insulation points in gold plate
An IR Remote Control
