The one... the first

It’s in an attempt to attack the unfamiliar grounds of video diffusion that the Integra branch of Onkyo have launched their first 50 inch plasma screen – the PLA-50V1.

Thin enough to turn moe that one competitor green (10.6 cm thickness for 45 kilos), the PLA-50V1 is a 50 inch screen in HDTV (16:9) format. It disposed of a panel of the latest generation, attaining 1368 par 768 pixels, for 16,770,000 colours on 256 different levels. In addition it will be capable of displaying two different pictures from different sources at the same time – a principle already used by Dreamvision for their “Revolution One” and which allows the user to watch a video while at the same time checking his or her e-mail or surfing on the web.
In terms of interfacing, any incoming signal can be displayed because the PLA-50V1 proposes seven video inputs, including: S-video, Component, PC (Rs232) DVI. etc… In addition, there’s a processing circuit that takes care of the conversion of an incoming interlaced signal into a progressive signal, making it compatible with the different standards of HDTV.

The PLA-50V1 is sold with the option of a video processor (FPV-1) developed by Faroudja (see specifications below). Currently available in the USA, the complete kit (Plasma and scaler) is sold for $23,000.
